Brother of suspect in Corrine Erstad's 1992 disappearance arrested in separate case

Five-year-old Corrine Erstad was last seen on June 1, 1992 in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. She went to play in Skyline Park near her family's home. Her two older brothers walked to the park to bring her back home after she had been gone for approximately 5 minutes, but she was nowhere to be found. Her stepfather and mother reported her missing two hours after she was last seen.

A kid playing in the park told the police that he thought he saw Corrine talking to an unidentified man and petting his dog, but it hasn't been verified that the girl was acutally Corrine.

Robert Guevera, a family friend of the Erstads was named the main suspect in Corrine's disappearance. Her mother said that Corrine accused him of molesting her on the day she went missing, but didn't tell the police about it until several days after her disappearance.

Four days after Corrine went missing, Robert was charged with kidnapping, rape and murder. The police discovered a dress identical to the one that Corrine was wearing on the day she went missing and a pair of girl's underwear inside of his locker which were stained with blood and semen. They also discovered bloodstains on a shower curtain inside of his trailer.

Robert was acquitted on all charges due to Minnesota law not allowing the full usage of DNA evidence at trials back in 1992. Since then, he continues to maintain his innocence.

Although Corrine was declared legally dead in 1994, her case is still classified as a non-family abduction.
