Jaliek Rainwalker

Twelve-year-old Jaleik Rainwalker was last seen on November 1, 2007 in Greenwich, New York at the home of his adoptive grandparents. His adoptive dad, Stephen Kerr spent the night alone in the house with him.

Jaleik disappeared sometime in the evening hours. When Stephen woke up the next morning, he found a note from him, saying: "Dear everybody, I'm sorry for everything. I won't be a bother anymore. Goodbye, Jaliek." Afterwards, Stephen reported him missing.

At the time of Jaliek's disappearance, he was living with his adoptive parents, Stephen Kerr and Jocelyn McDonald for five years. He was born addicted to crack cocaine and had spent his early childhood years in various foster homes.

Jaleik had also been diagnosed with reactive attachment disorder (also known as RAD). Stephen and Jocelyn stated that he had violent temper tantrums and his four adoptive siblings were scared of him. They also said that Jaleik was suicidal and homicidal at the time he went missing.

A little over a week before Jaleik's disappearance, Stephen called a crisis hotline, saying that Jaliek was unmanagable, and he and his wife wanted to reverse his adoption. The crisis worker suggested placing Jaliek in respite care instead.

Jaliek stayed in respite care with a foster family until November 1, 2007. The family returned him to Stephen, who planned on sending him to another respite home the following day.

In January of 2008, Stephen was named a person of interest in Jaliek's disappearance. According to the police, they had footage from a video surveillance camera of Stephen driving in his van around Greenwich after midnight the night that Jaliek disappeared despite his previous statement that he was asleep at the time.

In February of 2008, the police seized a computer from Stephen's home to determine if it was used to write Jaliek's goodbye letter, but they were unable to prove it. Afterwards, Stephen and Jocelyn filed a lawsuit against the police department, claiming that the search was improper.

As of 2023, Jaliek is still missing and foul play is suspected in his case.
