Rebecca West

Twelve-year-old Rebecca West was last seen on October 21, 1991 in Spokane, Washington at a service station with her friend, Iryll "Nicki" Woods.

Two hours after Rebecca and Nicki were reported missing, Nicki's body was found in the Seven Mile area near Riverside State Park (located north of Spokane) underneath a pile of burning pine needles; she had been strangled to death.

A man named Michael W. Tarbet lived in a cabin near the location where Nicki's body was found and knew her mom. Tarbet said that he gave Rebecca and Nicki a ride home from the store the day they went missing, but he dropped them off safely a block away from Nicki's house and had nothing to do with their disappearances.

Bloodhounds tracked Tarbet's scent from his cabin to where Nicki's body was found and smelled the girls' scents at his cabin. Tarbet was arrested the day after Rebecca and Nicki went missing, but there wasn't enough evidence to file charges against them in their cases.

In 1992, Tarbet was sentenced to 11 years in prison for sexually assaulting and stealing money from his landlady. In 1996, he was charged with murdering Rebecca and Nicki.

In 1998 (before his trial began), he entered a no contest plea to two counts of first-degree manslaughter and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Despite that, he maintains his innocence.

As of 2023, Rebecca's body has not been located and her case is still classified as a non-family abduction.
