Five-year-old Harmony Montgomery was last seen on November 28, 2019 in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Background
Harmony's mother, Crystal "Crys" Sorey lost custody of Harmony when she was 2 months old due to substance abuse issues; at the time, Harmony's father, Adam Montgomery was in prison. Harmony and her younger half-brother were placed in foster care. In February of 2019, Adam was granted custody of Harmony despite Crys and child welfare wanting her to stay in foster care. Her half-brother was later adopted and he lives with his adoptive family.

Disappearance
Harmony was last seen sometime in late 2019. The police were called to her home for unspecified reasons in October of 2019. Harmony and her family were evicted from their home on November 27, 2019. Various people reported seeing Harmony with Adam and her stepmother, Kayla Montgomery around that time, but between December 6, 2019 and December 10, 2019, people only saw Adam and Kayla with their other children, not Harmony.

It wasn't until November of 2021 that Crys reported Harmony missing to the police. Crys last saw Harmony around Easter of 2019 when she had a video call with Adam and saw Harmony in the background looking frightened. After Crys argued with Adam, Adam blocked her from contacting Harmony. Crys tried to search for Harmony for months and called the police about her concerns for Harmony's welfare, but to no avail.

When Adam was located by the police, he said that he had given Harmony to Crys around Thanksgiving of 2019; however, this turned out to be untrue and then Adam stopped cooperating with the police about Harmony's disappearance.

According to Harmony's uncle, Kevin Montgomery, he saw Harmony with a black eye during the summer of 2019. When Kevin asked Adam about it, Adam admitted that he "bashed [Harmony] around the apartment" after leaving her unattended with her infant half-brother and came back to find Harmony convering the baby's mouth to stop him from crying.

Kevin observed other behaviors by Adam he believed to be abusive such as forcing Harmony to stand in a corner for 4 hours and telling her to scrub the toilet with her toothbrush. He said that the family made various reports to New Hampshire's Division of Children, Youth and Families (or DCYF) and Adam cut off all contact with them because of it.

In January of 2022, Adam was arrested and charged with felony second-degree assault for abusing Harmony during the summer of 2019 along with misdemeanor charges of interference with custody and endangering the welfare of a child for failing to report his daughter missing.

A day later, Kayla was charged with one count of welfare fraud for obtaining $1,500 worth of food stamps on Harmony's behalf between December 2019 and June 2021 when Harmony was no longer living with her and Adam. Kayla was later charged with receiving stolen property (such as a rifle and a shotgun) between September 29, 2019 and October 22, 2019 while knowing or believing the property to have been stolen.

According to Kayla, she last saw Harmony in either November of December of 2019 when Adam told her that he was going to take Harmony to Massachusetts (where Crys lived at the time), but he came back alone and Kayla never saw her again.

In October of 2022, Adam was charged with second-degree murder and other offenses related to Harmony's disappearance (including falsifying physical evidence for altering, destroying, concealing or removing Harmony's body; abuse of a corpse for unlawfully removing, concealing or destroying Harmony's body; and tampering with witnesses or informants by attempting to get Kayla to perjure herself).

Authorities believe that Adam murdered Harmony by striking her with his fist on or about December 7, 2019. Kayla said that the family was evicted from their home in November of 2019 which forced them to live out of their car. She also said that Harmony kept having toileting incidents in the car.

Kayla said on December 7, 2019, after Harmony had another accident, Adam struck her three or four times over the course of a few minutes. Afterwards, he said, "I think I really hurt her this time. I think I did something."

Harmony moaned for about five minutes and then the noises stopped. Kayla and Adam didn't realize that Harmony wasn't breathing anymore until the car broke down later that day. Adam then put Harmony's body in a duffel bag and put it in the trunk of the car for several times.

Kayla said that Harmony's body was moved to several places after her death, at one point being hidden in a red cooler and taken to the apartment building where Kayla's mother lived. When the family lived into a shelter between December 30, 2019 and February 20, 2020, Harmony's body was put in a plastic bag and hidden in the ceiling. After their neighbors complained about the smell, Adam hid Harmony's body in a walk-in freezer of a pizza restaurant where he then worked as a dishwasher and cook.

When the family later moved into an apartment, Adam took Harmony's body with them. In March of 2020, he had a friend rent a U-Haul so he could move Harmony's body in the middle of the night. Adam is awaiting trial for Harmony's murder; however, Harmony's body has not been located and she is still classifed as a missing person.
