“It was almost about to happen,” he says. “We were planning for it. The script was written. I even called people to find out if they were available to direct, and it just didn’t happen.”

Carter cites scheduling conflicts as the cause of death for Episode 7, a standalone installment penned by a pair of

neophytes. “I created an opportunity for two writers that I am close with to write a spec script,” says Carter, who says the episode could still see the light of day if Fox orders another limited-run down the line. “If there are more

Doesn’t sound like too big of a loss since it was stand alone.

You are kidding right!? The X-Files had great stand-alone aka monsters-of-the-week episodes.

And it had many awful ones too. At this point I’m far more interested in the mythology, and would have really appreciated a more balanced episode count, with three monsters of the week episodes and three mythology episodes, as opposed to the four and two we’re getting. Five and two would have added insult to injury, as it were.

Actually it is 4 and 4. The first episode and the last one are 2 hours each, at least that is what was reported yesterday, if I’m not mistaken.

There’s maybe five standalone eps that I’d consider bad, at least that many mythology eps that are equally as bad, and just boring. The mythology itself is interesting but those eps are simply not as great as people claim. Most of them are just an excuse to have some action and do little to nothing to truly move the mythology along.

If the show comes back after this they need to resolve this colonization mythology and do something completely different IMO.

One thing I’d like to see is a more satisfying resolution to what happened to Mulder’s sister. What they did doesn’t come close.

Still think it’s super lame that we only get 6 episodes, especially if the ratings suffer and we don’t get more down the line. 13 would have been a good number.

They only had room in David and Gillian’s busy schedules to do 6 episodes. I’ll take 6 episodes rather than none at all. And i don’t think the rating will suffer. This new season has the biggest buzz and anticipation from fans than there golden days. We’ll see a S11 in 2017.

Now that Hannibal is canceled and the fall ending. Gillian has the time now, and if it works for them both. I can see there being at least 10 episodes, that leaves a little more wiggle room for story.

Still with 10 episodes, I hope they dont do 8 stand-alones and 2 myths. At least 6 stand-alones and 4 myths.

Make the myths the first and last, then a 2-part myth episode in the middle of the season.

Spec script as a favour to friends? Probably for the best that one stays in the vault.

A spec script doesn’t mean a script meant for production. The favor was reading it. If he didn’t like it he wouldn’t want to have it made. There’s a lot of good writers out there struggling to get work. It often takes someone in the industry doing you a favor or giving you a chance to show your worth.

It sounds more like a freelance assignment given out as a favor – I don’t really buy that they’d be able to slot in a script written purely on spec, given all the changes that have happened off-screen in the last 7 years and the need to fit it all in to a tight limited run. There must be thousands of writers who’d kill for a freelance gig on The X-Files, and who knows it might’ve turned out fantastic, but personally I’d rather reserve these revival episodes for some of the original team if any became available rather than a neophyte lucky enough to call in a favor.

Yeah a spec script squeezed in by Vince Gilligan because he was too busy to contribute during production of the actual 6 would have been utter crap…

Really stupid idea to not got with it, after all, what the heck are they going to fill the time with, more failing Grinder episodes? Looks like Lowe will be free to join the midseason replacement show he’s signed on to.

Hoping this show does mega numbers for FOX so they will throw whatever money at the cast and crew is needed to ensure we get an 11th season.

out of the 6 episodes, 4 are stand alones. the first and final episodes are mythology based.

I assume it’s cheaper and more commercially viable to make a TV mini series than another X File movie, with the passage of time only the devoted nostalgia freaks may get a kick out of this latest Chris Carter screen revival.
