I nervously wrung my hands as Alex continued to tell us what happened, I wanted to ask questions, make suggestions, but I couldn’t trust myself to that. The last time I suggested something I almost killed Iris and made her hate us all, I didn’t sure didn’t want a repeat.
“She alisema it English!” Stilere yelled excitedly. “How awesome is that!”
Brooklyn nodded like a scolded puppy, and risked a glance at Iris, who smiled at her. “Cool.”
“Yeah, it was, amazingly awesome!” Iris smiled, “I hope we didn’t attract attention.”
I nod quickly, my movements quick, I knew I was being a bit absurd, but I wasn’t risking it. Iris turned to me. “What do wewe think Terry?”
My eyes widened, but I quickly smiled. “Sounds awesome! I do hope we learn more!”
Darren winced at my dorkiness, while Alex and Stilere shared a laugh. Iris nodded, looking thoughtful. “Me too.”
I mentally breathed a sigh of relief, and the other’s quickly continued the conversation. I can tell I wasn’t the only one skipping stones, most of us were very careful in what we said, I saw Mikey wince when he alisema something that didn’t mean to offend Iris, but it was still mean, but Iris didn’t even blink at it.
Iris sighed. “Gosh! wewe guys are so annoying! I’m not going to bite unless I have a good reason, stop uigizaji like I’m a lethal Queen that’s not afraid to give out punishments!”
I cringed. “But…you were angry, I’m…I’m sorry! I d-didn’t mean t-to-”
Curse my stupid stuttering!
Iris put a hand on my shoulder. “It’s okay, Terry, I get it. I forgive you.”
I look at her with hopeful eyes, “really? Like…your not angry at me?”
Iris laughed. “No…I’m not.”
“You hesitated!” Zaria pointed at her.
Iris narrowed her eyes. “Huh?…”
“You alisema no, PAUSE, I’m not.”
Iris rolled her eyes, “I was laughing! I forgive wewe guys! Yes wewe guys were totally wrong…and I right,” I could see Alex roll his eyes. “But I forgive wewe guys, wewe didn’t know any better, but…don’t be so mean and annoying, and commanding, and rude like wewe were last time.”
I nodded violently. “All negative traits are now dissembled.”
Iris smiled at me. “Thank you, Terry.” She paused. “And…I’m…I’m sorry for overreacting… just a bit, I was so angry at wewe guys…that I used that as an excuse to be zaidi steamed at wewe guys. wewe tried to help, and I batted wewe away. wewe guys didn’t deserve that.”
“No,” I said. “I’m sorry, I should’ve known that place would be crawling with…it’s. I shouldn’t have snapped at you, I was just…on edge.”
“We were all on edge,” Alex corrects. “We all overreacted, and were all sorry for being doo doo heads.”
Iris laughed. “Yes, you’re my doo doo heads.”
We all laughed and hugged, and I wondered if I should be embarrassed to be proud of that.
