Jacob couldn’t wait for another time.
Charlie and I were sitting in the living-room, watching TV and talking, when someone knocked on the door.
“Will wewe get that, Kayla,” Charlie said. He was smiling. I didn’t like that smile. He knew something that I didn’t. I hated that.
I opened the door and almost had a moyo attack. Standing there, grinning crazily, was Jacob.
“Jacob!” I said, utterly shocked.
His grin vanished when he saw me. His eyes went from shining happily, to blazing angrily. His hands balled up into fists and he started shaking. I grabbed one of his shaking arms and dragged him into the house. I felt him flinch under my cold touch.
“It’s Jacob,” I called to Charlie. “We’re going upstairs!”
I didn’t wait for a reply. I dragged Jacob up to my room. I shut the door, rather loudly but intentionally. I wish I had a lock on my door so I made sure that Charlie wouldn’t walk in.
Jacob jerked his arm out of my grasp and turned away from me.
“Calm down,” I alisema to Jacob’s back. “It’s not what wewe think.”
“You alisema wewe were fine,” Jacob said, his voice shaking.
“I am fine,” I argued.
“No you’re not!” Jacob shouted. He turned round to face me. “You’re one of them!”
“Shush!” I glanced at my door. “Charlie will hear!”
“So he doesn’t know?”
“I haven’t told him yet.”
“You would think he’d know that his daughter’s a vampire!”
I watched Jacob carefully. I didn’t want him phasing into a mbwa mwitu and trashing the place. What would I tell Charlie?
“I am not a vampire!”
“Then what are you?!” Jacob looked ready to explode. Would he attack me? Would he kill me?
“I don’t know.” I sat heavily on my bed. “I don’t have a clue what I am but I know for sure I am not a vampire.”
“How do wewe know that?”
“I am not craving blood, that’s why.”
Jacob’s shaking subsided. He sat down inayofuata to me. Close but distant at the same time. Like Jasper had today.
“What happened?” he asked.
“One of the Wanyonya damu bit me. If the venom spread to my moyo I would die. I wouldn’t change into a vampire, I would die. Jasper sucked the venom out of my arm and saved me.”
I showed him the crescent scar on my wrist.
“But that means he would have drank your blood,” Jacob said, looking at the scar.
“Yes, he did. But he didn’t bite me, Jacob. None of the Cullens did.”
“Then why are wewe so cold?” he asked me. He touched my arm softly but then pulled away quickly. “And your skin looks pale too.”
“There’s still venom in my blood,” I explained. “It isn’t changing me au anything. It’s just attached to my blood cells, travelling round my body. It’s the venom that’s made me different. It’s keeping me alive, repairing any damage to my organs and stopping me from ageing.”
“So wewe won’t get old?”
“I won’t die.”
“So you’re, like, a half vampire?” he looked confused.
“Yeah,” I nodded. “I called myself a Vampzi. I’m still an Azdi because I have all my abilities still. But now I have the venom in me, I’m kind of a vampire. So I’m a Vampzi.”
“That makes Wanyonya damu sound cute,” Jacob laughed.
“It does, yeah,” I smiled.
A silence fell upon us. Neither of us knew what to say. What do wewe say to your friend who’s just found out you’re almost his enemy? You’re almost one of the creatures he hates with a passion? I brought my knees up and hugged them to my chest, resting my chin on them. I wanted to speak to him, tell him that I was sorry I couldn’t have fought my way out of this. Sorry that I had let Jared bite me. I wanted him to understand that it was my own fault. If I hadn’t been so stupid as to think I could fool Wanyonya damu into believing I was one of them, I wouldn’t be sitting here, wondering if I had just Lost my friend.
It was Jacob who broke the silence first.
“So you’re still you?” he asked me. His deep brown eyes looked frightened. Was he scared that I wasn’t who he thought I was anymore?
“I’m still me,” I alisema to him. “Just a little whiter and colder.”
“You don’t bite, do you?” he asked, smiling.
“Only if wewe bite first.”
He laughed and I wanted to hug him. I wanted to assure him I hadn’t change at all on the inside. I was still the Kayla that I was years ago. The Kayla that I alisema was just for him. But I wasn’t sure that he would want me to touch him, now that I was colder.
He moved a little closer to me and his arm touched mine. He didn’t flinch this time.
“Do I smell different to you?” I asked him.
“Just a little,” he wrinkled his nose. “You smell a little sweetly. Like them.”
“That’s what Jasper said.”
I looked down at my hands. Would Jacob still like me? Would he still want me to be his friend? au would he shun me, not speak to me ever again?
Jacob seemed to read my mind. His warm arms wrapped around me.
“I still like you,” he said.
“You do?” I looked up into his eyes which were no longer blazing.
He nodded.
“You’re my best friend. wewe accepted me for what I became so I’m accepting wewe for what you’ve become.”
Knowing that my best friend had accepted me didn’t make telling Charlie any easier. I would tell him. But not right now. I would tell him at the end of school, after graduation. Because it was then that I would have to start worrying. Could I stay in Forks even though people would notice that I wasn’t getting any older? Would I have to songesha away from Charlie, to the inayofuata place that the Cullens decided to go to?
I would leave these maswali until the time comes for them to be answered. I just hope I could survive that long without slipping up and revealing my secret.
This is the final chapter of the Kayla series. Do not be alarmed! There will be a sequel!

God and His priests and His kings
All were waiting
All will wait
As they go over
Mmm, held between heaven and hell
As they're dancing
As they dance over and over
Over
Cold
Cold
Crimson and bare as I stand
Yours completely
Yours as we go over
Sing for the lion and kondoo, mwana-kondoo
Their hearts are hunting
Still hearts hold ever and ever
Ever
Cold
Cold
God and His priests and His kings
Turn their faces
Even they feel the cold
Ooooooh, ooooooh
What wewe are given
Can't be forgotten
And never forsaken
What wewe are given
Can't be forgotten
And never forsaken
What wewe are given
Can't be forgotten
Cold
All were waiting

If we never found this love
If we never took that road
If we hadn't had the heart
We wouldn't have this home
Love, upendo will take you
Love, upendo will take wewe there
Love, upendo will take you
Love, upendo will take wewe there
In this world the moyo beats slow
In my arms let's share the cold
In my eyes you’re all I've known
Darling let's go home

Last born of the clan
First one to be free
Lived inside a house
Beneath the hanging tree
Loved them deadly nights
That chilled him to the bone
Words were cried at night
In unforgiving tones
Blood of his men was gone beneath snow
He picked up his kisu and his bow
Killer of Jonathan Low
Violence from without
And anger from within
Crawling through the fields
Informing inayofuata of kin
They all turned their backs
But they all knew his name
And if he could return
They'd probably do the same
Blood of his Marafiki was gone beneath snow
For all that I know, he died
Killer of Jonathan Low
The blood of his Marafiki was gone beneath snow
For all that I know, he died

An innocent child in New Orleans
A simple girl from simple means
Walked the rails
Rode her thumb
She hitched a ride with everyone
The regular, she’d rearrange
The girl knew how to chop and change
Chop and change (Ooo)
Chop and change (Yeah)
Chop and change (Oh, oh, oh)
Chop and change (Yeah) alright
Took a job working late
Jacking cars from out of state
She found no upendo in this town
So she’d never mess around
Had no luck, but ain’t it strange
The girl knew how to chop and change
Chop and change (Oh, oh)
Chop and change (Come on, come on, come on, come on yeah)
Chop and change (Chop and change)
Chop and change (Oh)
Alright

Alright
Your lips are nettles
Your tongue is wine
Your laughter’s liquid
But your body’s pine
wewe upendo all sailors
But hate the beach
wewe say come touch me
But you’re always out of reach
In the dark wewe tell me of a flower
That only blooms in the violet hour
Your arms are lovely
Yellow and rose
Your back’s a meadow
Covered in snow
Your thighs are thistles
And hot-house grapes
wewe breathe your sweet breath
And have me wait
In the dark wewe tell me of a flower
That only blooms in the violet hour
I turn the lights out
I clean the sheets
wewe change the station
Turned up the heat
And now you’re sitting
Upon your chair
You’ve got me Tangled up
Inside your beautiful black hair
In the dark wewe tell me of a flower
That only blooms in the violet hour

Situations are critical
wewe got to look first before wewe go
If wewe wasn’t too sure then now wewe know
The situations are critical
Wait, ok, you’ve got to look before wewe go
Wait, ok, you’ve got to look before wewe go
Deep into the darkness where I hide
The monsters are buried down deep inside

Buried down deep where the sun don’t shine

Allows the voices in

With their frequency wires
And wewe can do no wrong

A drunken salesman
Your hearing damage
Your mind is restless
They say you’re getting better
But wewe don’t feel any better

Your speakers are blowing
Your ears are wrecking
