The cover of Breaking Dawn came out not too long ago.

I have some theories, but I would upendo to hear your own.

Theory:

There is a white Queen piece and a red pawn piece. If the red piece were to songesha on space mbele (presumably to the right), then the Queen would take that pawn. There are no other pieces on the board.

The white Queen could represent purity. White is also the color that goes first in the game of chess.

The pawn is red, maybe representing the evil enemy. But the pawn has no real threat over the queen. The pawn in this could make the choice to songesha mbele to become a queen, but be taken kwa the Queen if it moves once, au it could just stay there while the other pieces play. I suppose that there are other pieces on the board that wewe cannot see. At least, both should have a king.

The Queen has many chances to take the pawn. The best option if the Queen has the first go from this position is to songesha three spaces to the right (white spot). Then the inayofuata songesha (if any) that the pawn takes, will not save the pawn. The pawn is certainly going to death.

From this:

Bella and the coven could represent the good side. They have the chance to win over the evil, no matter what.

Or

The Queen represents the Volturi au other evil in the Bella's world. No matter what songesha Bella makes, she cannot avoid the inevitable. She is vulnerable to be taken kwa the queen.

Also, the pawn cannot go backwards. The pawn cannot take back it's moves. It also cannot go diagonally except when there is an opposing piece in that spot. The pawn can jump 2 spots mbele at the first move, but after that it can only jump 1 spot forward.

However, the Queen can go diagonally/forward/backward however many spaces. She is considered the strongest piece on the board. The Queen has no chance of progression though. The Queen is the highest rank.

The pawn can choose to be a knight, rook, bishop, au queen. If the Queen lets the pawn live, then the pawn will have the chance of becoming more. Then the pawn can be equal to the queen. The pawn will have a better chance of overtaking the Queen if he chose to become a knight.

Even then, wewe have a Queen for a queen. Not the best move. A knight would be wise to be come. They can attack places that the Queen cannot attack.

The fact that the pawn could become different ranks might represent the choices that Bella has. Edward could represent the Queen. He makes the choice of if he wants to take the weak pawn that has the chance to become more.

Make what wewe want about this. I'll be interested in what other people have to add.

But who knows? It could be like when New Moon came out and the cover had no significance to the story. Maybe "Breaking Dawn" is different?

cheergeek I don't believe that the cover is like new moon, with no signifgance. There has to be reason for this cover, because honestly, I believe if the cover were to have no signifigance than the cover would be a lot simpler (and nicer, lol)

spezlee I agree. If the cover had no significance it would probably be a picture of another flower...or a sunrise....I am sure it has to mean something but there are just a million ideas out there. I've heard that the pawn is Jacob and queen is Edward, pawn is human Bella and queen vampire Bella, pawn is Cullens and queen is Volturi....etc...I guess we'll all have to wait to really find out. I'm partial to the Bella one myself...

latterdayfrodo I honestly see it as Bella being the pawn. She's weaker. The queen is Edward because he has the choice to take the pawn (Bella). He can either take her life, or let her move on to become a queen like him or some other piece.

mirrakule Actually New Moon does have a meaning behind it. It is another part of the night but also a new beginning. The beginning of Bella's feelings for Jacob even though she tries to deny it. I read it somewhere though I can't remember where. I will look it up and get back to this. Didn't find exactly what I was looking for but this is a little piece of it. From The official website. "And thus was born the basic premise of New Moon, and with it the title. To follow after Twilight, I needed a time of day to reflect the mood of the sequel. As this is the blackest period of Bella's life, I thought it appropriate to name the book after the darkest kind of night, a night with no moon."

As for the meaning... If you've read the Twilight FAQ, you know that the apple cover had a lot of meaning for me, and I was an active part of the covering process. However, that experience is more the exception than the rule in the publishing world. Something to keep in mind if you intend to embark on a career as a writer: lots of things you might expect to be under your control are not. Covers, for example. Those are mostly up to the publisher and the marketing and sales departments. swordinstone what about the ribbon on eclipse?

fanpire101 tho i dont really kno much bout chess, ur theory's sound good, even possible, and swordinstone i think that perhaps the ribbon on eclipse might mean broken ties between bella and others (jacob?) it could also be that she is torn apart between choosing from edward or jacob. i think the ribbon itself has no significance, but its the condition which the ribbon is in, but those r only idea's, they could be true or not

cheergeek I believe that the ribbon means that you can't always make a clean break. Like for example, it's not as easy to leave her life to become a vampire, because she[Bella] has to leave so many more people behind =( I still just like to think of it as a pretty ribbon, though. It makes me feel better, lol ^-^

esme01 fanpire ur rite meyer said that on eclipse faq

Lovestoread I think that the flower on new moon represents when Bella got cut at her birthday party. The blood running down the flower and ruining it exactly how that party ruined her life with Edward leaving.

latterdayfrodo Lovestoread, Meyer said herself in the NM FAQ that the flower had no significance. It was just something that the publishing agency rigged up.

Leytonfan4ever Hmm, honestly when i first saw the BD cover (not long ago), i thought the white represented Edward & The Red being Jacob. Like you know "Fire & Ice" (aka my all time fav chap out of the entire saga). Lol, that's what i thought of it.
