inayofuata morning I was woken up to my Little monkey brother Joey jumping on my back and my mom and dad screaming at each other say stuff like “I can’t drive the kids to school” au things like “shut up kids and go to your rooms.”
Well technically my brothers have their own rooms I have an attic but in the past me and Joey had to share a room until I grabbed my stuff and moved in to the attic and cleaned it out.
inayofuata thing I know I am being dragged out of my kitanda kwa monkey, my dad, and monkey’s chimp friend Jeff Miles. With only a little trouble they got me out of kitanda and slammed me on my face and left.
So I got on my black knee-length dress and black fishing net stockings and my make-up and ran to school.
During first period I overheard Matt talking to Cindy The head cheerleader, the usual but what they were talking about is what scared me.
“Did wewe hear that some family called ‘The Stringers’ moved into the haunted mansion that is in the middle of the forest down from Onyx’s street.” Whispered Matt. “No way! Wait how do wewe know where Onyx lives?”
“Halloween which is coming on Friday and there family gives out the giant pixie sticks and giant Candy bars and is the first house I egg after 11:00pm.”
Note to self tell parents about the egging this year. BUT, OH MY GOD! Someone moved into the haunted house. That place was going to be my play house when I was only 11 years old.
Back then I had helped a sophomore named Nat Manot (who is totally loveable) with a dare to go in the house and get something like a blanket au
a bracelet, anything to prove that Nat went in there. Before we got out Nat had wanted to get a blanket au a towel so he didn’t have to go up stairs, and I said, “I’ll go up stairs and get a bracelet au anything else but a blanket au a towel.”
And he gladly agreed to and sat in the corner then I went up stairs and saw at least 5 doors. One lead to a giant bedroom with a bathroom must have been the master bedroom. inayofuata the library, then another bedroom and then a gallery room. The last door was locked. Then I heard a thud come from below which was Nat looking around and I ran down the hall to the stairs then the dining room.
Then I felt a kick from Matt and he said, “You do know that Halloween is on Friday right?”
“Yea, but why are wewe wearing your mask now? If they are giving out the ugliest costume I’ll give wewe a call.”
During 5th period I got a note from Matt that said:
hujambo did wewe see Silvia this morning? I have to ask her something.
What’s it to you?
Well if wewe must know I was going to ask her to come over to my house and see what she would say to a nice chajio, chakula cha jioni there.
No I haven’t seen her today.
Come to think of it I haven’t seen her all week and she hasn’t called to say how she and David had a date.
Well …
She is so lucky not having to come to school and is able to sleep and yet I’m stuck here. Wait why are wewe uandishi to me?
Well …I don’t know wewe are the only person who talks to her and she lives on the wrong side of town.
Yea well wewe don’t really like her remember beating her up? And she all ready is dating someone!
Really who? Tell me.
Just then I saw Miss Coyal took the note from under Matt’s hand but his notes instead of the note we were passing back and forth. He got lucky as always and pretty much never gets a single detention even when he stuck a wad of gum in my hair.
“Miss Mason can wewe tell me what makes strong bones?”
“Milk?”
“No we haven’t talked about it yet. We are talking about who would want to live in the haunted mansion; I mean we are talking the Civil War.”
“Well then first off why would wewe say something about bones?”
“Well…”
“And what did wewe say about the family that lives in the mansion.”
“Well…”
“And the north wins the war. I just saved wewe two months of agony. You’re welcome.”
“Well then…how about we have free time for the rest of the time thanks to Onyx.”
When I got nyumbani I had to make chajio, chakula cha jioni for Josh, Monkey, and Chimp because when they cook it turns into a dish for mbwa and Cats and fuel for a radioactive factory and same for my mom and dad. Tonight it was spaghetti, tambi and meatballs for dinner.
After cleaning up chajio, chakula cha jioni I go to my attic and do my homework and then blast my muziki to make my mom and dad think that I’m still in the house. Every night at 9pm I go out for 2 hours to sneak over to the mansion to see the ghost and Critters of the night.
Tonight I was going to the cemetery to see if the woman that I met there is a ghost au just someone going there to see something.
As I was on my way there I saw shadows and eyes around every turn, and at the entrance of the cemetery I saw someone I couldn’t figure out if it was a boy au a girl but I did know that something was resting in its hand.
Next thing I know I am at the entrance of the cemetery and there is no one there. Must be my imagination but it was just so real.
Well now I have to Landed on my black comforter and sleep is the last thing on my mind and now I can stop thinking of the person outside of the cemetery. Just thinking of the possibility of them being a ghost, a werewolf, au a …vampire. Unknown
Dear Silvia,
Where have wewe been all week? Are wewe sick au just ditching school?
Are wewe hiding something from me au are wewe just too much of a chicken to tell me?
Oh yea Matt has been asking about wewe all week and I have the note to prove it.
Get Well Soon
Onyx.
Wow, I can’t believe that Silvia has been out all week and hasn’t told me why. Now I realize that when we were little that the way I meet her was because she was being beaten up kwa Matt and Jack. When I saw her I saw a bloody nose and a black eye (Wow I can’t believe that 1st grade was so ruff.)She told me what happened and I went too go find Matt and Jack and then beat them to a pulp and got my hundredth detention that year.
I got detention so much I had my name carved into a dawati and always sat there and was always reserved at the same teacher named Miss Cradles.
By 8th period I started to make a orodha of possible ideas that could have happened to Silvia:
1. Lost in the woods
2. Eaten kwa a bear
3. *Killed kwa a mountain of homework
4. Moved
5. Died
6. Ditching school
7. Sick
8. Dead
9. Dead
10. Moved
11. Died
Just then Matt and his apparently new girl friend start laughing at something that I couldn’t see but it turned out that Josh had been pushed in the trash can in the back of the building.
So than I ran up to my samaki covered brother and took him to the nurses room and said, “Great now not am I going to have to stand up for the school against Matt and have to babysit you”-and find out what is going on in the mansion.
That night Josh had to tell my parents what I did for him and my parents alisema they would take care of the dishes and then would bug me on doing better in life. Great to know that they can nag even zaidi then before when they tell me to pick up my room.
That night I got a letter that had been sent from Silvia and it said:
You do know that wewe have to work on your hand writing, and that wewe need to come over here at 10:00pm the night before Halloween for a gift and Happy Birthday tomorrow.
See wewe Tomorrow,
Sil.
What did she say about a gift? Could it be a car au another pack of gum from her store?
So many maswali were filling my head and sleep was far from my mind and so was the thought of babysitting my brothers at school and not have them get beat up kwa Matt au Jack and the bad news tomorrow is my 16th birthday.
inayofuata thing I know is that I am being chased kwa the thing I saw in front of the cemetery and it is holding kisu and is faster than anything I had ever seen. I stop to catch my breath and I turn around he isn’t behind me anymore. I look all around and then out of no were the thing shows up on juu of me and looks me in the eyes and said, “Say Goodnight, don’t let the Wanyonya damu bite.” And then I woke up holding my neck and o the floor. I looked around in the dark for the clock that flashed 3:00am.
So I get up and toss on my old black worn out jeans and a shati that alisema that alisema “Stop bugging me. I bite” and put on my black make-up. I went down stairs to find that it was only 5 in the morning and that everyone was still asleep in their bed. So I go into Monkey’s room with a glass of water and a feather and shaving cream.
I dipped Joey’s hand into the water for 10 sekunde and then put shaving cream into his hand and then rubbed his nose with the feather and heard a splat. After that I ran as fast as I could down the hall and then ran into the jikoni and cooked breakfast for the family and then ran it to their rooms before I got blamed kwa Joey and got off easy.
This time Joey didn’t even tell. Oh great he is going to get back at me for it.
After breakfast my family comes up to me and gives me a present and said, “Happy birthday we couldn’t wait to see your face.”
Then I rip open the gift and it was … a pink dress and a set of pearl earrings and mkufu and my brothers burst out laughing. “Thanks for the gift.” I alisema trying not to laugh like my brothers.
“Well try it on.” alisema my family at the same time. When I came put it on over my outfit and twirled around trying not to fall.
Then after ripping my dress off and got into my real outfit Silvia was down stairs holding a gift with a pink bow and yellow wrapping paper. She hands it to me with only one word ‘birthday’ because I never have a ‘happy birthday’. So I rip open the package and out came a black shirt, mini skirt, and a black mkufu with a bat. inayofuata thing I know is that I am hugging my best friend with all my strength and screaming “THANK wewe SO MUCH!”
Then I heard my mom sigh and say, “I knew that she would hate our gift. inayofuata mwaka it’s going to a card and 50 bucks.”
“So what did your parents get you?”Asked Silvia. I didn’t want to tell her but she told me what she got for her 16th birthday and so I said, “I got a pink dress and pearl mkufu and bracelet.”
When we got to school I decided to pay Matt a visit. I go looking for him when I felt a fist dig into my skin and then continued to ngumi, punch me when I ran toured the crowed hall until I felt one final blow to my ribs and fell down the stairs.
I woke-up to a gentile swaying of someone holding me and running somewhere. I was too exhausted to open my eyes when I heard people calling my name in horror.
The only voice I could understand was Silvia and I think Matt. Then I heard many people surrounding me. All I could feel was the pain in my right arm, left leg, the back of head, and many other parts of my body.
When I opened my eyes saw many people beside my bed. Like my mom, dad, brothers, Silvia, David, Matt, and a stranger.
I try to lift my head to see better but then the stranger pushed me back down lightly so he didn’t hurt me. Then I heard my mom scream, “Thank god you’re ok!”
But all I could do was stair at the stranger in the darkest corner of the room. My mom followed my gaze and said, “This is Sarus…um…”
“Stringer. Sarus Stringer.” alisema the stranger au one of the Stringers. He continued “And … well I found wewe near my house beaten to death but wewe only have a sprained ankle and wrist but a couple of cracks in your skull. But wewe should be fine kwa Friday.”
His voice was the sound of an angel. I couldn’t believe it, it didn’t seem real.
“Well then … thank wewe for saving me I guesses.” I alisema through a scratchy throat.
After everyone left and my parents were asleep I got up and started to write to Silvia. The letter said:
Sil,
Please don’t complain about my hand uandishi because I have to tell wewe that I need wewe to get as much dirt on this Sarus dude. And don’t tell David about it au wewe will get to face Matt and Jack again without warning and I won’t be there to guard wewe until after I beat him up. Got it?
See wewe tomorrow,
Onyx,
P.S. Don’t take the beat up thing seriously.
P.S.S. Don’t kill yourself with this. O.K.?
Then I stuck the letter into my backpack and got into kitanda ready to see what happens in my dreams.
In my dreams I saw the figure in the dark coming after me again and tackled me to the ground and turned me over and alisema “If wewe keep this up wewe will soon die just like me.” I looked into his eyes and then over to the road and saw something in the dark laying limp in the road with a black figure heading toured me with a dagger and plunged it into my moyo and over my screams I heard the same thing saying, “Goodnight don’t let me bite.” Then he bit hard into my skin as I died.
Then I sat strait up to the feel of me hitting the hard wood flooring wrapped in my two layers of sheets and the hundred blankets my mom put on me during the night.
By the inayofuata morning I go down stairs in my normal plain black shati and black ripped pants and my black combat boots. As I made breakfast my mom came in and I alisema to her, “Mom don’t go overboard with the blankets.”
“Honey, I only put only the comforter on wewe last night not any other.”
Then who did put them on?
At school I got surrounded kwa the Football team and Matt came and put his arm around my waist and said, “You do know that I found the letter to Silvia and all wewe had to do was ask.”
“Well then what’s the catch to your diabolical plan to rune my life?”And then I hear his team laugh and start whispering about some plan. “You do know that wewe guys are worse than the girls that live on gossip so if wewe don’t mind would wewe kindly I don’t know…LEAVE ME ALONE! God call your brainless Bimbos off so I can listen to what wewe ARE SAYING TO ME”.
Then Matt handed me a note that said, “Go to school just one siku without any black clothing and let people take pictures au wewe like that. Then I will tell wewe about Sarus
Then I grabbed the pencil out of his hand and wrote down: Fine whatever.
All Matt did was smile and nod his head. inayofuata thing I know is that I hear cheering from behind me.
inayofuata Matt grabs my arm and takes me to his locker and put in his combo and nodded for me to open it.
I grab hold of the handle and jerked it open and out came a note that read:
From what I can see is that Sarus Stringers is a vampire because he doesn’t use lights, he uses candles Something’s going on in that house I going to find out what it is. And I think that he will hurt anyone that gets in his way like me au Onyx. I won’t let that happen to her-I mean me.
Well technically my brothers have their own rooms I have an attic but in the past me and Joey had to share a room until I grabbed my stuff and moved in to the attic and cleaned it out.

"I need you." I quietly whispered, Ari looked at me with his wide green eyes. "I need wewe Ari, we all need you." I alisema as Carli and Marli started to cry. "You need no one, only yourself." Ari said, glaring. That peirced a hole right through my aching heart... "Maybe you're right." I mumured, I hated inaonyesha weakness infront of the group. Allina put her hand gently on my shoulder. "Ari, listen." She said.
Ari snarled, we backed away slightly.
"LEAVE ME ALONE!!!" He screamed, taking off down the sidewalk.
