"After I crush you with my Donkey Kong fists, you're going down Richards. Do you hear me? DOWN!"
I scoffed. "Well, maybe so, but not before I KIRBY SMASH YOU!" And my Kirby turned into a rock and smashed Artemis's Donkey Kong before she could even blink.
The triumphant sound of victory blared through the large speakers as I danced around the room.
Artemis set her controller down inayofuata to her and held her hand out. "This time, wewe win. But inayofuata time, wewe better watch out."
I eagerly shook it. "Until we meet again, DK."
Throughout a year, our relationship had slowly escalated from enemies to frenemies, and the only time when we'd actually talk to each other was when we battled on Super Smash Bros.
"Another victory, another root beer," alisema Robin as he walked in with three cans of root beers.
I took one from him and downed it. "Thanks, Rob. All this winning is making me thirsty."
He flashed that brilliant smile of his when the alarm sounded.
I quickly threw away my can and ran for the Mission Room, where Aqualad, Superboy, and Megan were waiting.
Batman was standing in front of the computer, watching a horrific video of a tsunami.
"You needed us, Bats?" Robin asked.
I couldn't help smiling when he held my hand tightly.
Batman turned around, his face sullen. Well, at least half of it. "We just received a distress signal from the SS. Atlantis. They're right in the middle of an oncoming tsunami, and we need your help to evacuate the people." His glance switched to me. "Erica, you're going to have to control the ocean while the team evacuates."
My eyes were fixed on the computer screen. "But what about the people on land?"
"The Justice League will be taking care of that," he answered, looking at the screen again.
"Shouldn't we be getting the land job?" Megan inquired. "Usually, you'd be giving us the easier jobs."
"You guys could handle it," Batman alisema confidently. And through his eyes I could tell he meant it.
"Well, what're we waiting for?" Superboy urged.
"Right!" we all rushed to the terminal, where we strapped in the same red plane.
We were on our way to the North Atlantic Ocean when Robin looked at me.
"Erica, are wewe okay? wewe look pale."
"I'm fine," I lied. He didn't believe me.
"Tell me," he insisted.
I sighed. "Robin, what if I can't control the tsunami? Thousands of people will die because of me."
"Don't say that. You've been practicing for almost a mwaka now."
"I KNOW," I pressed. "But all my life, I've been a slacker. Anything could go wrong."
He slid his hand over mine. "Don't worry. We're all a team, and we're there to help you."
I smiled at him uneasily, my stomach queasy. It all came down to this.
Finally, the one time in my life when everything depended on me.
"Don't worry. We're all a team, and we're there to help you."
