Did your parents ever misunderstand todays slang?

Yesterday at the chajio, chakula cha jioni meza, jedwali my dad alisema to my sister "wow, wewe actually finished all of your chakula :o" then my sister alisema "yolo" then my dad replied "green" thinking she alisema yellow XD my dad and mom always misunderstand slang used today, but in my household we dont use that much slang anyways...did something similar to this ever happen to you? (my dad uses slang from 2003 and stuff thinking its still maarufu with us "youngens" lol like "phat" and what not)

My uncle called this guy "slutboy" once, my cousin was embarrassed to death but I was laughing my punda off xD

Yep both of them do. My dad uses 1970's and 80's slang and he isn't up to date. My mom pretty much does the same thing. But misunderstanding slang isn't the only thing they misunderstand, they misunderstand alot of things.

Oh meh gawd! My mom and dad usually blend in but not "quite" up to date, like my mom and dad try to act cool in front of my Marafiki kwa saying slang from the 2000's and alisema my friend was "Phat" and she just looked like this "._." it was quite funny XD but my parents are getting used to things tode

My dad does most of the time. I don't remember if my mom did au not. It's funny though! Usually when they don't understand and stop to ask what it means it helps. e_e

I tried to explain my mom the meaning of "troll". Now everytime she sees someone, she says it.

I try to keep my language as if it came straight out of a literary book around my parents now.

Same reason I always turn off my muziki whenever my mom is near. When the lyrics will go; "tonight, tonight, there's a party on the rooftop on juu of the world" she'll go "tonight, tonight, dadadadada pop on the girl" really off key and then the entire song is ruined for me.

God, why can't parents just stop trying to be not old?! xD

Last week I was staying over my friend's house and got a text from my mom. She alisema "try not to stay up all nite. ur father and i are going to kitanda now because YOLO". I facepalmed because she clearly has no idea how to use yolo properly in a sentence.

My sister alisema it because she BARELY finishes her chakula >_> i found it to offence that wewe would actually blame my whole family off of that one time my sister alisema yolo. Seriously, maybe wewe should re-evaluate yourself

I'm sorry but if wewe say "yolo" it's expected that you're worshipping the Kardashians and degrading rap muziki
