I'm on a roll
Everything I touch turns to shh..
It's taking it's toll
Can anybody get me off it?
Stuck on a roll
And it's wearing thin

I remember the night
No wet eyes, no crossroads
No mention of fate
Just a poor decision

I shouldn't have gone
Even though my head would bust
I shoudn't have gone

[Chorus]
Be careful what wewe hope and wewe pray for
wewe know wewe only get what wewe pay for

And I can hear the ticking of timebombs
For poor Cinderella

I'm on a roll
Everything I touch turns to gold
It's taking its toll
Can anybody get me off it?

I shouldn't have gone
Even though my head was busting
I shouldn't have gone

[Chorus]
Be careful what wewe hope and wewe pray for
wewe know wewe only get what wewe pay for
And I can hear the ticking of timebombs
The clock strikes
It's midnight
For poor cinderella

wewe talk in your sleep, I hear wewe say beautiful things
I upendo wewe I do, wewe know that I do
The world is awake but wewe don't hear
A sound that it makes, asleep in dreams so deep

Peace in your heart, peace in your soul
Peace in your head, good goodnight

You're far from me now but you'd be here
In the blink of an eye if I spoke your name
The morning will come for wewe and I
Life will go on, we'll keep at least for now till then

Peace in your heart, peace in your soul
Peace in your head, good goodnight
Peace in your head, good goodnight

wewe talk in your sleep

Matt Hales (right) and the mwandishi of the interview
Matt Hales (right) and the author of the interview
We had the opportunity to interview Matt Hales of Aqualung at World Live Cafe on Saturday night. Even though they had a four-hour bus delay he still afforded us the time for the interview before his show. Aqualung's new album, Memory Man, comes out on March 13th. wewe can also see him live, if wewe missed the concert, on The David Letterman onyesha on Tuesday night.

--
I have to first ask, why Aqualung?
Why is it called Aqualung? wewe don't have to ask that.

I do because I'm very interested.
Okay. Well, that was a decision made in about ten dakika about five years ago, which I am stuck with. I liked...

Dearest little elves,
I hope the mwaka is drawing to a close in an elegant and enjoyable fashion, like an expertly judged soiree.
Whilst crunching through the frosty london streets I find myself remembering end-of-years-past: gazing out of the bay window onto the snow-covered front garden of our house in Ireland when I was 5, listening to 'when I kissed the teacher' kwa ABBA, Lost in exquisite melancholy; imba the grand old carols in the choir with my family and Marafiki at midnight mass, replacing the word 'God' with 'Bean' and being frowned at kwa Wilf the angry choirmaster with the wild eyebrows...

Picking up broken words
Snipping the tips off
Grinding down the long ones
That wind around your eardrums

Dangerous plastic words
For crowd dispersal
And dumb dumb words
That could blow your head off

[Chorus]
This is a story 'bout the three of us
Down kwa the water and the tide is rising
This world is burning and I'm terrified
I need a little zaidi time with you, oh
I just need a little zaidi time with you

One fine siku you'll sing
Your inevitable upendo song
Inevitable lie song

Inevitable cry song

Time bends broken bones
Time bends broken bones
'Til they wrap, upangaji pamoja around your throat
And snap around your fingers

[Chorus]
This is a story 'bout the three of us
Down kwa the water and the tide is rising
This world is burning and I'm terrified
I need a little zaidi time with you, oh

Down kwa the water and the tide keeps rising
This world is burning and I'm terrified
I need a little zaidi time with you
Oh, I just need a little zaidi time with you
Oh please, just a little zaidi time with wewe
Surely Matt Hales is very depressed. Most Aqualung songs from both his awali albums have been solemnly downcast, and some may say the fact that I've bought them both says zaidi about me, rather than that this terribly sensitive singer-songwriter has greater longevity than at first listen.

It's not that cinderella is bad, but after a four mwaka vacation to mull over your own existence, wewe just can't come back with material that sounds exactly the same as two albums that.well, sounded the same. Maybe I should point out that I bought those albums for £2 each. Anyway, stagnation is what I'm...

Magnetic North Album Receives Excellent Reviews
The praise for Aqualung's "Magnetic North" album continues. Here are what some of the critics are saying:

“….brooding Brit Matt Hales (a.k.a. Aqualung) sounds newly energized on tracks like Fingertip.” 3 out of 4 Stars - People
“…the album is still predominantly gentle, a little strange, and quite beautiful.….it’s one of the most perfect examples of hopeful longing I’ve heard in muziki this year.” “….a joyous ode to the pursuit of love.” - Popmatters
“Matt Hales proves to be not just a prolific singer-songwriter from England...

Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo do doo [4x]

I wanna knock knock down your door
Wanna steal your bicycle
Wanna rock your rocking horse
Wonder what's the time now, Mr. Wolf

Dancing in the street
With my suit and my big white teeth
And my shati and my big white shoes
And almost nothing left to lose

In a minute, I mean it, wewe lose your grip
'Cause you're hanging, kwa a fingertip
I'm gonna huff wewe and puff wewe and shake your tree
Gonna make you, fall in upendo with me

Oh oh oh
Ooh ooh ooh

This is the beat beat beat of my heart
It overheats every time we're apart
With the sweat dripping off my chin
Honey wewe don't know...

He wants to give but he'll give himself away
She wants to take but she's taking all she can
They've got it all figured out
He wants to listen but there so much zaidi to say
She wants to shout it out loud but she doesn't
She doesn't open her mouth

Had enough of crying
When she's happy and smiling when she sad
Had enough of wondering
What became of all the dreams he had
Are they out there somewhere

Baby don't wewe stay there on the inside
Together we can make it on the outside
You and me on the outside

Can wewe remember the way it used to feel
We'd run as fast and as far as we wanted to go
But then the walls...

I know that I was lost
And I know that it was too too hard
And although it isn't much
I give wewe all I have.

There's a mirror in the old place
A place where we would stand
And wonder at our sweet sweet selves
Smiling hand in hand
This wasn't what we planned.

[Chorus]
Though the night has fallen
I close my eyes and imagine
A tiny glimmer flickering on the horizon.

It takes time to get it right
Takes no time to get it wrong.
I can't believe I didn't see
The ground was caving in

Oh, can we just start again?

[Chorus]

Everyday, everyday
Living my life like it's over
Like it's over and deep underground.

Little look, little smile
Flick the switch and it's over
Like it's Lost and can never be found.

But maybe there's a tiny glow
That won't die and won't leave us. A lone
nyota shining. The sun is rising.

There's a tiny glimmer flickering on the horizon.
Can wewe see it? Can wewe see it there?
Can wewe see it? Can wewe see it there's
A tiny glimmer flickering on the horizon.
Well well well...
Ever since I realised that wewe could decide what muziki the kinanda played and thus discovered the deep deep joy that comes from creating a new piece of music, I had a little hope/dream.
My little hope/ dream was that oneday I would write a song that would magically get out into the world and into people's lives and be special to them the way so many songs were special to me. It took a long time but in
2002 it happened. And amazingly it's happened several times since then. It is a constant chanzo of wonder and grateful cheer
- hooray!
Anyway, the first time it happened was a song...

Don't wewe just hate it when people leave out of tarehe blogs ilitumwa on their front pages for months at an end?
It's like going round someone's house in April and finding cobwebbed krisimasi decorations and ancient-old-man's-balls-balloons dangling everywhere. it just screams 'DISTRACTED' au possibly 'DEAD'. It certainly suggests 'I'M NEVER COMING BACK' . And who could blame you...

So I apologise. It's my fault. I have been distracted, but I'm not yet dead.

How's things? Really? Oh well...

I started 2008 in Los Angeles which is in America. (WWWesscoasss') (west coast).
I was there producing an album...

a good one - I've had Bach, Berio and Beck and I've only just finished my
Breakfast. (Beetawix, two. I wanted Ddreshies but my son announced that
since he'd 'helped' in the supermarket, they were all his and that he was
going to eat them every tuesday and wednesday for the rest of his
life...."but it's monday" I mumble. He passes me the Beetawix with a tiny
shake of his lovely head.)

wewe know that I'm in upendo with wewe
You know I always will be
I'm haunted kwa the same dream
Haunted kwa the melody

Feels like a raincloud passing over
Looking for a place to stay
Eyes making rainbows as the rain goes down

You know what I think we should do
Take a train down to the sea
Desperate times, desperate measures
Wind rushing over me

Feels like the evening coming closer
Drumming like the pwani around wewe
It's a beautiful sunset
Still the sun goes down, down

Tell me that you'll upendo me forever
Going on another world
With our hands are only tied together
Out into the new world

And you're...

Don't listen to the TV
Don't listen to the radio
Don't let anybody tell wewe
That this old ship is going down

Black bottom of the ocean
Picked up kwa an invisible hand
Have a feeling down my insides
And now, the sea, the stars, the sky
The sea, the sea, the sea

Washed over to the waterfall
I got swallowed kwa the undertow
I twist, I turn, but I know there's only one way out of this
So honey if you're listening
Press your lip to the overflow
Cause I'm just down here praying someone hears my SOS
I'm drowning, reel me in

Fly back into the lifeboat
Where did the women and the children go
Are these...

Going down, down, down, down, down
Kinda great to know as I take that step
This is my one last chance

And everything shatters
Everything's falling apart
I'm hanging in tatters
Barely a beat in my heart
And nothing else matters
No

If the man is the sum
Of all that he's done
Then I'm nothing much today
And if it's true what they say
And wewe are what wewe eat
Then I'm nothing much today

And everything shatters
Everything's falling apart
I'm hanging in tatters

The walls will be white
When I finally get my own place
I will stay up every night and it will be quiet
When I finally get my own place
I'll sit on the stairs
When I finally get my own place
It will have windows that will weep
A garden I will weed, and samaki I won't feed

You don't need to be lonely, wewe don't need to be lost
You don't need to know what you're living for
You just knock on my door
When I
When I

When I finally get my own place
I'll fly into a rage and lock myself out
And after hours of whispering through the keyhole
I will let myself back into your arms

Magic drifted through the air touching everybody there
wewe came into my life so small altering everything
Changed

(one plus one)
I looked into my crystal ball
(two then three)
The future wasn't clear at all
(three then four)
And yesterday was hard enough
(distant dream)
At the juu of this precipice

Magic settled on the floor and there she lived forever more
Turning dakika into hours and days, stumbling, tumbling

Nothing can be the same as it was, I know, I know
Nothing can be the same as it was, I know, I know

wewe came into my life so small altering everything

Lead me au follow

If this ain't the real thing I don't want the real thing
Ignore me, I sit here, I know where I fit here
wewe don't give a shit dear but really I do

Oh take me with you, I'd crawl through coal to kiss you
Just give me that sign and then I'll be

I used to be so tired a bit like I had expired
But woman wewe saved me, wewe came and enslaved me
Now I know exactly what to do, I know exactly where to go
This is just how I dreamt it might turn out to be

Come on disrespect me cause I know that you'll protect me
Just give me that sign and then I'll be here, yeah

Baby when I'm with wewe nothing seems to matter
Baby when I'm with wewe nothing seems to matter
Nothing seems to matter

Stars spinning round me, how will they ever find me
Everything seems so long ago
There's no need to worry cause we don't need anybody
Just give me that sign and then I'll be here, yeah

Baby when I'm with wewe nothing seems to matter [x5]
Nothing seems to matter
