Cory Monteith is loved kwa thousands all over the world for his portrayal of Finn Hudson - the lovable, slightly dorky, football playing, Glee club nyota on the hit fox, mbweha series Glee.
However, in a new interview Monteith reveals he is vastly different to his maarufu on-screen character.
The 29-year-old actor opened up to Parade magazine about his troubled past and how he has managed to turn his life around.
“I’m not Finn Hudson,” he declares. “I’m lucky on so many counts – I’m lucky to be alive.
“I burned a lot of bridges. I was out of control,” he told the mag, adding that his drug use included “anything and everything, as much as possible.”
The Glee nyota dropped out of high school at the age of 16 after attending 12 different schools, including an alternative programme for troubled teens.
kwa the age of 19, his mother and Marafiki feared he “could die” from his out of control lifestyle and demanded he made a change – which saw him entering rehab.
“That’s when I first went to rehab. I did the stint but then went back to doing exactly what I left off doing,” he says.
However, his low point came at a time which he refers to as “the crystallising event.”
“I aliiba a significant amount of money from a family member. I knew I was going to get caught, but I was so desperate I didn’t care,” he admits. “It was a cry for help. I was confronted and I said, ‘Yeah, it was me.’ It was the first honorable, truthful thing that had come out of my mouth in years.”
Monteith was aliyopewa an ultimatum, clean up his act au his family would ripoti him.
“I was done fighting myself, I finally said, ‘I’m gonna start looking at my life and figure out why I’m doing this.’”
Monteith cleaned himself up and moved to a small Canadian city where he worked as a roofer before he turned his attention to acting.
This new found interest saw him landing himself a lead role on one of the most maarufu televisheni phenomenons.
It’s obviously got to be hard to come mbele about this sort of past, particularly with the kind of fame he is currently enjoying. So why did he speak out?
“I don’t want kids to think it’s okay to drop out of school and get high, and they’ll be famous actors, too. … But for those people who might give up: Get real about what wewe want and go after it. If I can, anyone can.”
Monteith has turned his life around so much that just this past Spring, he finally obtained his high school diploma!
While some may express concerns about Monteith staying sober with his new found Hollywood lifestyle, the actor claims he has it under control.
“I’ll go out, but I leave early, before the shenanigans. I don’t really do the Hollywood party thing,” he explains. “I’d rather watch sports au play video games au work out au sleep, to be totally honest.”
As for his plans for the future?
“I want to get married and have children and live happily ever after. That’s important to me.”
Awww!
Who would have thought that squeaky clean Cory had such a scandalous past! Good on him for turning his life around and using his experiences to speak out about the dangers.
