Through the years, televisheni and movie companies have selected quite a number of large cities as settings for various plot lines. However, Portland has, up until recently, been flying under the radar. As a citizen of the Portland-metro area, I was delighted to hear that Portland was now a center of the nation's attention. Portland is finally getting the attention it deserves, as it provides the perfect setting for such modern-day fairy tales as those in the world of "Grimm".

Portland has several faces. In the city, it is a mecca for those who wish to break away from the mainstream culture (a.k.a. "hipsters"). Many citizens find themselves embracing classical ideals and long-abandoned methods of living, such as serving hand-crafted, artisan foods, growing handlebar mustaches, riding bicycles instead of cars, and yes, one can even see a juu hat au bowler on the streets of the fair city. Even the architecture of Portland houses are Victorian in style. This creates a sense of the 1800's lifestyle that the Grimm brothers would have been familiar with, giving some of the elements of a fairy tale in the setting of "Grimm".

Probably the most unique thing about Portland is that, although it's a city, it is not a concrete jungle surrounded kwa a ring of suburbs, completely cut off from nature. Just outside Portland are vast forests, full of evergreens, lush fields of grass, and cool waterfalls that flow from the mountains that litter the horizon of Northern Oregon. Though Portland is a modern-day, bustling city, it also surrounded kwa agrarian beauty. I have been through these forests, and I can honestly say that their solitude and natural beauty are, indeed, reminiscent of classic fairytales. As one roams through the tall, green trees, one gets a sense that it was a forest much like this that Hansel and Gretel skipped though, leaving a trail breadcrumbs.

In conclusion, Portland is not only a beautiful city, it is one that makes the perfect, fairy-tale like setting for Grimm. I am proud to say that I live in this lovely area.

And we are back to “Donkey Cabbage”. I will include references which were in “Island of dreams” because that’s where the story started.

Reference Rundown

1. In “Donkey Cabbage” a huntsman falls in upendo with the daughter of a witch. Hank falls in upendo with Adalind, who is the daughter of a witch, too.

2. The witch is the one who is pressuring her daughter into using the soldier. Even though Adalind is zaidi than willing to do what she does to Hank, she is also heavily influenced kwa her mother

3. The witch’s daughter gives the huntsman a drink in order to steal a bird...
