Chapter Two…Life

As I was driving nyumbani I noticed that my fathers car was not in the driveway. But I was not worried; him being late was not unusual. As I opened the karakana I also noticed that my mothers car was not in the driveway either.
I then began to worry.
I quickly ran inside, and grabbed the phone. I dialed my fathers cell number, the voicemail answered. I didn’t even bother trying to contact my mother; she always had it on silent.
I plopped down on my kitanda in my massive, family room. I looked down at my leg, and to my horror, blood had leaked through my bandage onto my mother’s new couch! There was a huge bloodstain on it! My moyo sank into my stomach.
I knew that they were going to give me a Marines version of hell tonight.
Why did they both have to be Marines?
I hobbled into the bathroom, and ripped off my bloody bandage. I quickly replaced it. I then wiped the blood that was rolling down my leg.
I felt so useless, something I had never felt before.
For the first time in a long time, I sat down and cried until it hurt. When I finally stopped my face was all dried out, and I had a massive head ach. I took some Advil.
I got up and limped into the jikoni to attempt to make dinner. After an saa of frustration, I finally managed to concoct some burnt noodles, and some disgusting red sauce. I gave that up and threw it away, including the pans.
I decided to have cereal. That was safe.
As I took my first bite, my mother stormed into the house. My father was following her with a grin spread across his face.
“What is that smell, Aliena?” My mother demanded.
“I tried to make dinner,” I explained. My father chuckled.
My mother then whipped around and yelled at him.
“What is so funny, Jeff?”
“You need to relax. It is not that bad of news.” He alisema calmly.
“Not that bad… How can wewe say-”
I cut her off kwa asking, “What is ‘Not that bad of news’?”
They both immediately clamed down at once, and gave me an apathetic look.
“Me and wewe father are going to be…deployed.” She answered coldly, but I knew that she was just masking the pain. I could always see right threw her. I was like her in that respect, I denied all emotion.
“Where? When?” I gasped. “Both of you? How can they do that? That makes-”
“To Iraq, we are leaving inayofuata week. It is our job.” He alisema to cut me off. He hated it when I ranted.
“WHAT?” I screamed. This made no sense to me.
“It is not our choice young lady, do not scream at us. This is not all about you. I thought that at the age of seventeen wewe would have grasped that concept.” He replied darkly.
“But it is! I’m seventeen! wewe both can’t leave!” I didn’t know what to say. Couldn’t they see that this was wrong to leave me kwa myself?
“We know. wewe won’t be alone…. We got wewe some…protection.” He replied. He was trying to stay calm.
“What?” I asked. I was dreading what he would say. I was praying to god it would not be my grandmother. That would be awful!
“Tomorrow, you, your father, and I will go pick out a German Shepard for you.” My mother cut in.
“A dog?” I was absolutely amazed! They never let me have a dog, I had been asking for one every krisimasi and every birthday sense I was five.
I was happy for about five seconds, then I was frious. They were going to make up for leaving me, kwa giving me a dog!!!!!
“Yes.” They both said.
“For me?” I said.
“For all of us.
Those bastards! I thought.
“I’m going to bed.” I quickly ran up the stairs. When I got into my room, I jumped out of my window and started up my car.
I didn’t care if they heard.
I sped to the bank, withdrew two thousand dollars. I was going to buy that dog myself. I refused to share it with anyone else. Especially my parents.
I drove into the garage, parked my car, and walked through my front door. I heard my mother and father screaming at each other in their room.
Apparently they didn’t hear my car start up, nor see the huge blood stain on their new couch.
But whether they heard my car au see the bloodstain didn’t matter to me anymore. They were leaving, they couldn’t ground me, and they didn’t have any leverage on me anymore. I wouldn’t see them until around inayofuata year, and during that mwaka they were no longer my parents. I was no longer afraid of them. I was somewhat indivisible.
I went into the jikoni and snatched the whipped cream from the fridge. I then proceeded to spray it into my mouth. If my parents saw this, they would flip. I then dared to go walk past my parent’s room while spraying it into my mouth. My mother happened to see me as I walked past. She practically galloped over, and took it from my hands. She then smacked my arm with bottle.
It hurt.
“Young lady! What has gotten into you?” She growled.
“I was hungry. wewe buy crappy food, what do wewe expect?” I shot back. I knew I was going to feel bad about saying that later, but I was very angry. I was getting back at them for seventeen years of torture. “I’ll put it back.”
I took it from her and walked back into the kitchen, and put it back. I then walked up to my room.
About five sekunde later I heard my mother screaming my name!
“ALIENA NATALIE PRINCETON!! What have wewe done to my couch?!?”
I felt bad about this one; I knew how much that kitanda meant to her.
I ran down the stairs.
Here we go…. I thought.

~

That night I decided that I was not sad that they were leaving me. I was relieved.
The inayofuata siku I went and got my German Shepard. Behind my parents back I paid for it myself. So, it was legally mine.
