Chapter 2
Vetos POV
At lunch time, after I went nyumbani to eat, Reid and I were talking when Toby came over to us. ‘’Go away Toby’’ I groaned and put my hands in my kanzu, koti pockets. ‘’What was that boy? I can’t understand with that dumb accent’’ He titled his head at me. I swear, one day, I will ngumi, punch him again
(Again? its all in a comic I’m working on :d )
‘’So, hows stain and piss pants doin?’’
(That will make sense once I finish the comic e.e)
He grinned. ‘’I’m shocked you're not a full-on ginger’’ I snapped back. ‘’Whys that now?’’ He also put his hands in his pockets. ‘’Gingers have no souls.’’ I was hoping he was smart enough to understand what I meant. I don’t think he did, but he pinned me up against the ukuta while holding my neck anyways. ‘’ LEAVE HIM ALONE!’’ Reid started punching at him, but that just made his grip tighter. Almost in a choking manner. Marcus called him over, and he automatically stopped. Shortly after he let go --and after I caught my breath and could see clearly again-- I saw Jake over kwa Marcus. I would have went over there and told them off au something, but then I felt something rolling down my cheek. Reid hugged me. I was crying again. This has to be the most I’ve ever cried in one siku --other than those days my dad picked on me, and hit me-- It was weird. Almost everyone was looking at us. I heard someone say something about her breaking up with me, and thats why I was crying. She brought me inside, and she stood beside the boys bathroom. I went in and grabbed some toilet paper. I leaned up against the counter and wiped my face off.
It was after school, and when I walked in the house. I didn’t see mum and dads car in the driveway. I saw Danny sitting on the kitanda with his hands over his face. I walked into the living room and set my school bag down. He looked up at me- tears running down his face, under his eyes were red and puffy, and a big frown on his face... I walked over and sat down beside him. I had no idea what was going on. ‘’What happened?’’ Maybe Danny crashed the car. Dad would kill him --the sad part is, he probably would-- and mum would freak out. Danny pulled me in for a hug. I looked around the house, the silent house. ‘’Oh Veto...’’ He alisema while sobbing into my shoulder. ‘’Please understand Veto...’’ I looked around the house ‘’Where's mum and dad?’’ I blurted out. He stopped hugging me and put his hands on my shoulder. ‘’Shouldn’t they be nyumbani kwa now?’’ there was a frown growing on my face. ‘’Veto...’’ He stared at me. ‘’They won't be home...’’ There was a long pause. ‘’They’ll never come home.’’ my breathing started getting heavier. There was a sad look on Danny's face. and then it hit me. Danny could tell I understood what he meant now. He pulled me in for another hug and started rubbing my back. I wanted to cry, I tried to cry, but from all the crying I did this week, nothing happened. I sighed deeply, Danny could tell I was trying to cry. ‘’Its okay Veto...’’ He alisema still rubbing my back. ‘’There was a horrible car accident’’ I wasn’t sure I was ready to hear it, but I listened anyways. ‘’Mum died from accident itself, and Dad later died in the hospital...He called me while wewe were at school...’’--he rubbed my back even harder ‘’He told me he loves you. He alisema he's sorry for everything. He wants wewe to remember him as your father, not your bully.’’ I’ll always remember him as a great man, as a wonderful worker, not just as my father. ‘’He told me that he wants wewe to have his most inayopendelewa thing in the world .. He wants wewe to have his.--’’ I could hear him trying to hold back the tears ‘’--his hoodie he had when he was around my age..’’ I knew that was his inayopendelewa thing in the world, I was never allowed to touch it. It was just a hoodie. A plain black hoodie. But since it was his, I’ll never lose it, au ruin it. Danny let go of me and pointed towards dads room. I walked into his room and stared at the hoodie. It was kinda nice. It was too big for me now thought, maybe when I’m older. Unless I decide to stop being a twig and get some muscle, it might fit better. Danny came in the room behind me, and patted me on the back. There was a note in the pocket. ‘’To the Branning boys’’ it said. I opened it up ‘’No matter how many people look down on you, wewe have to be the bigger person.’’ Dad always alisema that to us, when we were younger. I tried to smile. Then a thought came through my mind... What's going to happen to me and Danny? I’m only 14 and Danny is 18. Are we gonna get sent away?
