Chapter 36
An Angel in disguise
I feel my blood run cold as I hear the door open and I quickly enter the room, the guys are on the phone, and I motion them to be quiet, not loud. Meredith nods and whispers into the phone, quickly, she sound hysterical and the door slamming shut makes us all jump, and the two girl’s start to whimper.
I put a finger on my lips and they nod, clutching each other.
I have to think of something, and fast. We hear a crash and a frustrated scream and the operator on the phone sounds alarmed as Meredith whispers told you, while hanging up.
“What are we going to do?” One of Meredith’s friend asks.
“The window!” The other one shouts, too loudly might I add.
We hear Jess scream in anger and the two Marafiki ditch us, running out of the room to the window in the back of the hall we passed when we went to the attic. I clench my jaw about to follow but Meredith grabs my hand, her finger on her lips bringing me to the bathroom in the room.
I’m confused at first, but then I understand, Jess will follow the yell going up the stairs, and when she reaches the top, looking straight ahead, will see the two girl’s trying to open the window, because wewe see the window once wewe enter the hall from the stairs. So they’d probably be seen first. I didn’t want to leave them but we had to et out and get to nearest phone.
I grin when I see a window, big enough for both of us to get through. Meredith locks the bathroom door and we go to it. Quietly trying to open the window at the same time we hear the stomping foots of Jess going up the stairs, and wewe can hear one of the girl’s yell hurry.
We succeeded and it opened soundlessly, I almost laughed with relief. I helped boost Meredith up through the window and she grabs my hand to help me up. Were both perched at the window looking down, I look at Meredith and she nods. She gives my hand and I squeeze her’s back.
It’s now au never, our only way at getting out and we were not going to stay here to be caught in the trap. I hear Jess’s terrifying voice yelling and the girl’s screaming and I hear footsteps all over the place.
Meredith smiles at me. “I’m so sorry, for taking her away from you.”
“I forgive you, it’s not your fault.”
“Dorothy was right about you, wewe really are an
Angel in disguise.”
Before I can say anything, Meredith nods taking a deep breath and I do the same, she clutches my hand tighter and I hold on too, just as tight.
And then we both fall.

When will this end?
Mass shootings
Terrorist attacks
Police brutality
They say it's just a gun control problem
They say it cannot be fixed
I say the problem is deeper
I say there is hope
When will this end?
Income inequality
Veterans living on the streets, penniless,
Dying kwa their own hands every day.
Some say they will make America better
But nothing has changed...
And I truly do fear
Nothing ever will
When will upendo start?
The siku we offer a hand to the fallen
Instead of cringing back in shock
And running away
When will our world change?
The siku we upendo too much to kill
The siku others' pain becomes our pain
The siku we act instead of just talking about it
"It's impossible"
"We're too broken to be mended"
"It's a hopeless battle"
Yes, it's hard, but let us try.

Newly born
Squeals
Pitifully
A tiny voice raised high
Going nowhere
Confined
Confused
A single spot on the page
Then
It grows
And walks in waves and braves the uchungu, chungu wind
Shakily on its spindly legs, it smudges the paper
imba its first tune
A tiny tune
Twirling and whirling
It grows taller
And tougher
With every beat of its half-grown heart
It grows
Joined kwa others
They sing together
A forgotten voice
A reflection
Of Lost symphonies
Tooting their trumpets
They stand to attention
An army of discord
Marching forth
Into a brand new dawn

Jack turned and ran his own screams still ringing in his ears. He manged to find an empty classroom in which he collapsed against the door.
He must have been imagining it there is no way Mr Thompson is dead? His body was slumped in the chair, blood trickling down his face and his ghost was sitting on dawati staring at the door a pale grey." JAAAAAACK!" an unearthly shriek sounded through the air. Jack ran to the window and tried to open it but it was locked. CRASH the door flew of the hinges and Mr Thompson entered.
Jack ran through the door straight under the ghost and sprinted down the corridor. He finally reached the exit, he wrenched on the door as hard as his strength would allow but it wouldn't budge. he could see out of the corner of the eye Mr Thompson gliding down the corridor looking in each classroom. Quickly and quietly Jack slid behind a chair in reception. "AGRHHHHHHHH!"
