It depends. I don't really pay attention to mindless hating. If they were making a discussion with me, I would like to hear their reasons for doing so though. Whatever they might be in the end, I still couldn't care less. Everyone has its own views and preferences. I don't need anyone's approval concerning my Favorite Characters !!!!

Well, I generally ask why they don't like them. If they can come up with some good reasons, I shrug it off even though I get slightly upset over it. But it doesn't really bug me too much.

Like with Mephisto. I love him to death but I can see why he'd be hated. He's narcissistic, puts Rin in danger, somewhat sadistic, manipulative, and generally lacks the ability to feel human empathy. He's a cruel heartless demon, sooo....

But 2-D on the other hand, you hate him and you die. Nobody is mean to my sweet baby angel.

Tbh generally idgaf. In some cases I'd be appreciative they told me their views. I relate to many of my favorites and if I know how they feel/think. I'd know what to expect in reference to my relation with them. I remember someone insulting Homura Akemi a while back and they had some really idiotic reasons why they hate her and love their fav characters. That discussion shaped my viewpoint of them and I stopped hanging around said person. In my opinion it's okay to have different opinions but I won't condone stupidity with their opinions. I wouldn't defend my favs to the point of getting upset because its pointless and dumb. They are fictional characters and no matter how much I relate to them. They aren't real so I don't have to defend them. All I will do is analyze the offender and decide for myself if they are worth my time to talk to if they are being idiotic.

Unless they can give a good reason, their opinion is meaningless to me. Otherwise, I might agree with them in some degree.

Depends. Id probably try to get why they did it, see if they have a good reason and discuss it just cause conversation over a common topic and seeing another perspective, but tbh that only works with people that are reasonable fans and not just haters which is rare when someone 'offends' a character.

Id prolly but a bit of defense and explanation why I like them but not anything too crazy if it had any reason to it.

If its just plain old hate, Id ignore. Not worth my time.

Ehh actually, it depends on which character it is tbh

If the character has done some wrong / is a controversial character overall then I'd get where they're coming from even if I'm fond of said character if the person can give solid reasoning.
Although if the character in question has never actually done wrong or hardly has any reason to be bashed on and it's just mindless having then I don't even bother to understand the other person's viewpoint.

I'll get annoyed, and maybe defend them. But I won't bother having a fit over it.

Only Jack Bauer and John Wick I will defend to the death. Otherwise, I literally don't care.

Though I was a lot worse before. I had a long running feud with someone over Regina and multiple spats with people over Bellatrix. I've loved Azula before any of them and surprisingly I've fought over her the least; probably because she gets the least hate.

Well, when they're talking to me about this, I often ask, why they actually hate him/her. After all, they are mine fav characters and not theirs. I often point them some things out, though. In the current fandom I am I've seen a few people calling a girl a w****, just because she flirted with one of the main characters, that for example I point out, since a whore is not excactly that.

The rest if I see people fighting over that character, I actually don't do anything. I just ignore that, I often feel sad about the hate, but the reasons on the fights are often real immature.
