I woke up that morning with adrenaline in me body. I got to go nyumbani with Humphrey! However, I was concerned. Would my parents like him? I got in Humphrey’s face to wake him up.
“Arr, oh, I don’t like this! It’s uncomfortable arr…” Humphrey woke up, “Ahh! Jeez, wewe startled me!”
I hugged him and got up, “Today is the siku we go home!”
“Cool! I’ve never flown on a plane before!”
“I’m also concerned that my parents won’t like you.”
“What!” Humphrey was panicked. I should have alisema anything.
“They won’t kick wewe out of the house, but they may not give wewe much attention.”
“Oh, jeez wewe worried me!”
“Sorry. Anyway, Our first flight is at 7:00 on Delta, and our connection is at 9:30. We should arrive into Sacramento at about 11:30.”
“A.m. au p.m.?”
“It’s 10:45 a.m. right now, what do wewe think?”
“Oh! Haha! Sorry, I wasn’t thinking.”
“It’s alright.”
A few hours passed and it was time to head to the airport. We left at 1:00 because the airport wasn’t walking distance. We also put the new suitcase I bought within another one. It was a three saa fast walk. We were both tired when we got to the road heading to the airport, but a lenient shuttle driver let both of us on to take us to the airport.
I put the suitcase on the kiosk desk, and headed to gate A-13 where we sat for two zaidi hours. Humphrey and I got to the ticket counter, when the checker stopped us.
“Woah, that mbwa mwitu can’t get on this plane!”
“I spent perfectly good money to buy an extended ticket so a mbwa mwitu could board! Look at the ticket! It’s one of those specialized ones!”
The checker looked closely, “Oh sorry sir, go ahead.”
We boarded that 757-300 and were at row 5 A and B. As the plane took off, Humphrey bragged about how awesome it was. The plane landed at Sea/Tac Airport. AGAIN I had to take a tram to the other side of the airport. It wasn’t bad though. After all, I had Humphrey
“That was so fun! I’m glad we have another flight!”
“This plane is a slightly smaller one. It’s also another airline.”
“I know, I just want to fly!”
I laughed, “I do too, Humphrey, I do too!”
When we boarded the plane, the ticket checker didn’t harass us. We boarded the 737-300 and sat at Row 3 DEF. We had the row to ourselves. Humphrey couldn’t seem to wait for take off.
“Are we at the runway yet?”
“No, we still at the gate.”
When we pushed back and started going he asked again.
“Are we at the runway yet?”
“No, not yet.”
When we started taxiing, he asked again.
“Are we at the runway yet?”
I laughed, Humphrey always cracks me up, “No, I’ll tell wewe when we are.”
“Ok, I want to get there!”
“I know wewe do.”
We reached the end of the taxiway, and waited for our turn. There were four planes in front of us. When it was our turn, I told Humphrey it was the runway.
“Humphrey, we’re here!”
“We didn’t take of yet!”
I laughed, “I mean the runway.”
“Yay!”
A guy looked back from the row in front of us.
“Your mbwa mwitu is funny!”
“Thanks. He’s cute isn’t he?”
The plane took off and we eventually landed at Sacramento.
“Man, that plane is crappy,” Humphrey said.
“Your face is crappy,” I replied.
“I though wewe like my face!”
“I do! It was just a joke. I upendo your face!”
Humphrey leaned against me as we walked.
“My parents will be waiting at the baggage claim. I’ll tell wewe which ones they are.”
“Ok.”
We went down the escalator to the baggage claim. I couldn’t sight my mom au my dad.
“Where are your parents?”
“They gotta be here somewhere.”
I suddenly felt a yank on my backpack. At first I thought it was Humphrey but it was actually my dad.
“Oh hujambo dad!”
“Hey goat!”
“Humphrey, this is my dad, Tony. Dad, this is the wolf, Humphrey I met in Canada.”
“Hmm really? I would have never known that!”
I always loved my dad’s sarcasm voice.
“Tony, that’s the name of the other pack’s leader back in Canada.”
The three of us walked to our Nissan Armada, where my mom waited patiently. I got into the massive SUV.
“Hey, mom!”
“Hey baby! How was wewe trip to Canada?”
“Awesome! Guess who I brought home!”
Humphrey climbed into the car as I finished my sentence. That was perfect timing.
“Hey Humphrey!”
I hugged him as he leaned in closer.
“Isn’t that Humphrey from…” My mom couldn’t really talk.
“Yup it is.”
I rubbed my face on him. It was about 11:15 when we got home. I didn’t have much time to onyesha him around because I had school in the morning.
My dog Bella didn’t like the idea of Humphrey. When we opened the karakana door she was glad to see me. I pet her and kissed her. But she saw Humphrey and cowereded. She buried herself in the corner. Humphrey approached her and nudged her. She yelped in fright. She was scared because Humphrey was a wolf, which is a predator to domesticated dogs.
“It’s ok, I’m not going to hurt you,” Humphrey said.
“Please, don’t eat me!”
“I won’t. I want to get to know you.”
“Really? wewe know Uriah will kick your punda if wewe hurt me.”
“Woah, he’s violent like that?”
“He quick to apologize though. I made another dog bleed once. It once one of the only times he ever hit me but he apologized and forgave me.”
Humphrey nudged Bella, “Come on out.”
I came up to them, “I see wewe two are enjoying each other,”
“We are,” Humphrey said.
I kissed Bella again then let Humphrey in the house.
“I don’t have enough time to onyesha wewe around the whole place gut I’ll just onyesha wewe around the house. Let’s start down stairs.”
Humphrey followed me around, “This is a huge house!”
“It’s alright. There’s bigger. It’s an average sized house. About four bedrooms two and a half bathrooms.”
“Wow! That’s big!”
“Again, it’s average.”
“Hey mom, can Humphrey sleep with me tonight? I promise I’ll cleep up all the mbwa mwitu hair.”
“I’d upendo wewe to, but I don’t know.”
“Please mom!”
“Alright, if it goes well he can be up here again.”
“Thanks mom!”
That night I slept with Humphrey. Actually, he slept with me.
“Hey Humphrey.”
“Yeah?”
“What your inayopendelewa band?”
“I really like Pantera, but I’d have to say Metallica.”
“Same here. What’s your inayopendelewa song kwa Metallica?”
“I gotta say Ride the Lightning.”
“Mine’s either St. Anger au And Justice for All.”
“Those are good songs.”
I shifted to where I was laying on my right, facing Humphrey. I rubbed his back as we laid there cuddling.
