I think the writers know once Elena goes Damon she won't be able to get back with Stefan.
That's why they don't have the slightest idea ( yet ) how to play this out and are dragging it as long as they can.

Guys i want to scream of annoyance! have wewe seen the long long makala carina ilitumwa on zap2it about stelena! and JP tweeted to her ''Nice article'' of course it is all about stelena! and ian's interview was only abt his new girlfriend NOTHING abt delena! am really loosing hope at least for this season and i feel that the writers really developed a loyalty towards stelena and will never break them up..
