Intimacy doesn't mean sex at all, it means closeness in a relationship. Closeness doesn't mean being close to someone in a bed and not being in an upright position.

to me it doesn't really matter. Some people just can't get the actual closeness intimacy feeling, so they just call sex their intimacy. Others, like myself, can feel really close to my best friend, and kind of have an intimate relationship with them.

Actually it means both. There's two different definitions. Sexual intimacy and emotional intimacy.
